Analysis of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. An almost unchanged return of a very complete game

One of the most important Dragon Ball games in history returns with an improved version? for PS5 and Xbox Series

It’s a little dizzying to think about it, but 8 years have passed since our original analysis of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, a title that broke the mold due to its gigantic scope in terms of the number of characters and possibilities to discover. From then until this new version of DB Xenoverse 2 For PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, a lot of content has been added.

It would not make much sense to explain now all the details of the time patrol missions, the temporal failures and other game dynamics (we tell you in detail in the original analysis, linked above), but it is fair to highlight everything that has improved the title over time, both in the PS4 and One versions like in this new wave.

For a start, The number of characters that we can unlock has gone from the original 80 to more than a hundred, between free updates… And paid, because for example the latest pack, called Future Saga Chapter 1, costs a whopping 20 euros. Yes, it brings 6 interesting fighters and much more content, but paying 20 “bags” for each block of content… Ugh.

In any case, there are more than enough sagas and fighters without you spending extra and, furthermore, over the years we have won Free content like the cool Heroes Coliseuma kind of strategy game, something similar to the arcade games Dragon Ball Heroesor the full photo mode with which we can take some very, very spectacular snapshots.

The sagas have come a long way since the original. From Golden Frieza we have gone to the titanic (and exhausting) fight against fused Zamasat least in the plot.

A mini was also incorporated special bow with Oolong to promote Dragon Ball The Breakers or some extra trainer like Jiren, with whom we can learn Ultra Instinct…

A smooth jump

Come on, if you’re new, you literally have dozens if not hundreds of hours of content to discover. ¿And if you already played on PS4 and Xbox One? The good news is that you can import the content to this free update, to maintain the level, movements and other experience of your patrol car. It will be like loading a game on your “old” console.

The bad news is that, in reality, there have hardly been any changes with the generational leap. Yes, we would say that the textures look a little sharper and, of course, loading times (one of the big drawbacks of the game) have been greatly reducedbut in reality that did not require a huge update, these consoles could do it natively.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

PlayStation 5 users will appreciate the enhanced dialogues of our allies (you know, the Elder Kaiohshin, Trunks and the Time Kaiohshin, mainly) through the DualSense speakerbut that’s where everything “new” ends for the most recent console generation.

Some haptic vibration or stronger lighting would have been nice, for example, but the truth is that there is nothing in that sense, not an option to choose between performance mode or quality mode. Still, it is true that The fluidity is total and the game holds up very well in terms of spectacle for being 8 years old.

The rest of what we originally said remains here: It’s cool to be able to design our patrol car with super attacks mixed in. from Gogeta, Orange Piccolo and the Xeno warriors, for example, so unlock more and more characters for a colossal roster…

But it is no less true that, in the end, The combats end up being somewhat repetitive and even chaotic, with moments in which you will feel like the John Travolta meme looking around because you won’t even know where you are. In that sense, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is a more rounded game… And that Dragon Ball Sparking Zero also promises a lot!

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

So, if you didn’t try this title at the time, take advantage, because It’s a great time to enjoy your tons of content, both offline and online. If you already noticed Fu and the rest of the game’s villains in the previous generation, here you will not find anything newbeyond the recent paid DLC.

In any case, the update to PS5 and Xbox Series X of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is free if you had the version from previous consoles, so no one is bitter about sweets. Unless they are the ones who have a trick when you say “ka…ka, ka… ka.”

ASSESSMENT:

Even 8 years later, this game is still one of the best in the franchise and has tons of surprises to discover. Of course, we would have appreciated if they took advantage of the generational leap to provide important technical innovations.

THE BEST:

Tons and tons of content to discover. Some special attacks are still pure spectacle.

WORST:

There is no news regarding the PS4 and One version. Certain combats can be pure chaos.

Platforms:

nintendo switch,

PC,

PS4,

Xbox One

Commented version: PS5
