Capcom’s new fighting game compilation will be released on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, but not on Xbox. Some players do not understand the decision and harshly charge against the Japanese company.
At the Nintendo Direct held on June 18, some third-party games were announced. And, perhaps, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection It is the one that has generated the most expectation, since it rescues the classic installments of this beloved fighting saga.
Specifically, Capcom’s new compilation includes seven classic games of the genre, from the first two Marvel vs. Capcom to X-Men: Children of the Atom or Marvel Super Heroes.
The compilation was announced for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, with a launch window for this year. But why has Capcom skipped Xbox again?
This is not the first time this has happened with a Capcom remaster. For example, both Monster Hunter Stories games do not come out on Xbox consoles eitheralthough, surprisingly, Ace Attorney Investigations Collection does.
Some players have strongly criticized Capcom, and even Xbox itself, as they believe that Microsoft has not moved enough to achieve the launch.
What is clear is that Marvel vs. Capcom is a franchise that has always considered Xbox among its platforms, with the sole exception of its first delivery.
Capcom rules out Xbox for most of its remasters
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection will be the second game from the fighting franchise (along with the 1998 original) that does not come out on Xbox platforms.
Before, deliveries like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Origins or Infinite did come out on Xbox, from the first Microsoft console to Xbox One.
Why has Capcom skipped Xbox? There is no official explanation, because the Japanese company has not yet commented on the matter.. It must be said that the compilation does not have a native next-gen version, and that on PS5 it will be executed through backward compatibility with PS4.
Some suggest it has to do with the engine MT Frameworkthat might not fit well with Xbox One hardware. Although we must remember that said engine was adapted to the 3DS circuits…
Others, however, They think that Capcom will no longer release games for Xbox One, considering that Microsoft’s old-gen console is discontinued (unlike PS4, which continues to be sold). If next-gen versions existed, it is likely that the game would come out on Series X|S.
These are some reactions from fans of the saga:
”A game like Marvel VS Capcom should be on as many platforms as possible. Capcom’s previous collections have always been on Xbox too, why is it different?”, says Bella_Drive.
”I would like to add that I would have loved to have also purchased a physical Xbox version. Why skip Xbox?”, he assures KJovian.
”I use most of these collections on Steam and Xbox, as that is my preferred console for fighting games. I hope they find a way to move it.”, says Jared Saphiro.
”They also didn’t bring Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection to Xbox. It sucks to see Xbox players excluded from this one too”, says Johnny Alicea.
Even certain Xbox users consider it a betrayal, because Xbox has always been a strong platform for the Marvel vs. Capcom since 2001.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection is a long-awaited compilation that brings together seven fighting classics. It will be released in 2024 (no date) for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PCin the absence of knowing why it doesn’t come out on Xbox.
