Limited Run Games rescues forgotten classics from the 90s with remasters

Limited Run Games announces in its Direct physical and digital remasters of Bubsy, Gex, Tomba and Fear Effect, classics from the 90s recovered on PS5, Switch, Xbox and PC.

Limited Run Games has signed up for the Direct, already passing the frenzy of the Summer Game Fest, and for the second consecutive year they organize a Limited Run Games Direct with 20 game ads in physical format, and some digital.

And, although Limited Run is known for its physical and collector editions of digital or retro games, they are also dedicated to making retro game digital releasesremasters of titles that no one else remembers.

Gex, Tomba, Clock Tower, Fear Effect…these games will return in digital releases for PC and consoles thanks to Limited Run Games.

The games that Limited Run Games rescues

On the one hand, Gex Trilogythe platform games featuring the gecko Gex created by Crystal Dynamics and released between 1995 and 1999 on PlayStation, will return with all three games in autumn 2024.

Gex Trilogy will be released in Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and Steam.

Another returning pet is Tomba 2D platform game created by Tokuro Fujiwara (from Mega Man 2, Bionic Commando or Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins).

So much Tomb! like Tomba: The Evil Swine Return will be released soon (there will be more news in 2025) on PS5, PS4, Switch and Steam.

But these games were already announced at last year’s Limited Run Games Direct. The surprises came at the end, with Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collectiona mascot from the 90s by Accolade, now owned by Atari.

This collection of Bubsy games, released between 1993 and 1996 on the 16- and 32-bit consoles of the time, will be released sometime in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch and PC.

Finally, Fear Effecta cult PlayStation game from 2000, whose owners, Square Enix, are collaborating to remaster using the Carbon Engine that will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Switch and PC in 2025.

All these games will receive a physical release, style Limited Run: Expensive and slow to make and ship from the United States. But as happened with other of their games made with the Carbon Engine, such as Jurassic Park Classic Collectionwill also be released in digital format.
